Outside Your Lines – A Chakra Colouring book

Colour & chill, because relaxation looks so good on you!

Colouring playbook for busy people

Over 50 colouring pages and chakra-based activities to help you relax and find the freedom to play.

Did you know that colouring can actually reduce stress?

The simple, meditative act of colouring has been scientifically proven to stimulate the brain areas associated with creativity while reducing activity in the amygdala – the “lizard brain” that triggers our “fight or flight” response to stress.

Introducing a colouring book that is a little different from the rest.  This one has been designed to help you relax, unwind and perhaps, even colour outside the lines!

“This is not just a colouring book – this is a book of muse. Wendy”

Heart centre designHere’s why I think you’ll love this NEW BOOK:

Outside your Lines - a chakra colouring book

“I am a left brain thinker, wanting to explore my creative side in a “safe” way. For me it is intimidating to consider creating from a white canvas. Colouring has become a special meditative time for me. Marlene’s first book has also offered me an interesting exploration of myself.” Kathleen, Accountant

Completion not required

All too often, I find that people avoid starting something because they’re afraid they won’t be able to finish it. This is especially true when it comes to a playful and “unproductive” activity such as colouring – too many of us feel that our time could be better spent doing something else.

But the point of this book isn’t for you to create pretty pictures – it’s simply to help you unwind and relax and tap into your innate creativity.

CugreenblueThe true value of creating lies in the process, not the end result. If you only have five minutes to spend on a page, enjoy it! Please don’t feel like you have to go back and finish the page at some point. Allow yourself to practice the art of letting go. After all, I’m sure your to-do list is already packed – you certainly don’t need to add “finish that colouring page” to it.

Here are some ways to let go instead of feeling like you have to colour every last bit of the page:
  • Outline some of the lines instead of colouring in every open shape.
  • Leave lots of white space! Artists do it all the time – it creates more breathing room in their art.
  • Colour the small spaces the same as an adjoining bigger bit. The black line separating them will add visual interest.

The Chakra Connection

“From the great spiral galaxies, thousands of light years across, to the billions of atoms swirling in a grain of sand, the universe is composed of spinning wheels of energy. Flowers, tree trunks, planets, and people — each made of tiny wheels turning inside, riding upon the great wheel of the Earth spinning in its orbit through space. A fundamental building block of nature, the wheel is the circle of life flowing through aspects of existence. At the inner core of each of us spin seven wheel-like energy centers called chakras.”

– From “Wheels of Life” by Anodea Judith

If you want to learn a little more about the chakras (my new book is infused with chakra love) – listen to this while you are colouring:

– a journey through the chakras with me!

Throat / TruthThe activities you’ll find opposite every colouring page are based on the seven main chakras from yogic philosophy. The chakras are thought to be spinning wheels of energy within your body that act as junctions between your physical self and your energetic or magnetic self. They cannot be seen, only sensed.

Each chakra spins at the speed of light with its own frequency corresponding to the seven colours of the spectrum: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet – the colours of the rainbow. They also correspond to different types of energy, consciousness, and behaviour.

Through my studies of art and yoga, I have discovered there is a strong link between the chakras and the creative process.

I have included quotes with each colouring page that reflect the lessons we can learn from exploring the seven chakras from Root to Crown. These quotes come from real people just like you – my wise, hilarious, and whole-hearted friends.

Whether or not you believe in the concept of energy spheres, the guiding themes of each chakra are helpful metaphors for how to lead a full and gratifying life.

If you’re curious to learn more about the chakras, I have a full explanation here on my site: GUIDE TO THE CHAKRAS and here’s a map of them all.
