All too often, I find that people avoid starting something because they’re afraid they won’t be able to finish it. This is especially true when it comes to a playful and “unproductive” activity such as colouring – too many of us feel that our time could be better spent doing something else.
But the point of this book isn’t for you to create pretty pictures – it’s simply to help you unwind and relax and tap into your innate creativity.
The true value of creating lies in the process, not the end result. If you only have five minutes to spend on a page, enjoy it! Please don’t feel like you have to go back and finish the page at some point. Allow yourself to practice the art of letting go. After all, I’m sure your to-do list is already packed – you certainly don’t need to add “finish that colouring page” to it.
Here are some ways to let go instead of feeling like you have to colour every last bit of the page:
- Outline some of the lines instead of colouring in every open shape.
- Leave lots of white space! Artists do it all the time – it creates more breathing room in their art.
- Colour the small spaces the same as an adjoining bigger bit. The black line separating them will add visual interest.

The activities you’ll find opposite every colouring page are based on the seven main chakras from yogic philosophy. The chakras are thought to be spinning wheels of energy within your body that act as junctions between your physical self and your energetic or magnetic self. They cannot be seen, only sensed.
Each chakra spins at the speed of light with its own frequency corresponding to the seven colours of the spectrum: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet – the colours of the rainbow. They also correspond to different types of energy, consciousness, and behaviour.
Through my studies of art and yoga, I have discovered there is a strong link between the chakras and the creative process.
I have included quotes with each colouring page that reflect the lessons we can learn from exploring the seven chakras from Root to Crown. These quotes come from real people just like you – my wise, hilarious, and whole-hearted friends.
Whether or not you believe in the concept of energy spheres, the guiding themes of each chakra are helpful metaphors for how to lead a full and gratifying life.
